Hi my name is Gina Dewey and though I have written many stories, I never aspired to be an author. My journey in publishing my own stories began with a need for Irish Dance stories to read to my dancers during camp. I couldn’t find any, so I created them. Thankfully, my mother is an artist and has painted my whole life. She joyfully put her talents to work and finally found purpose to her art by illustrating our books. With each story, I am grateful that she continues to bring to life the words with such amazing watercolors.
My stories all stem from my life and faith. I enjoy teaching morals, character and any way I can share about the One who created us. I also love the challenge of rhyming, so most of my stories have it. Because I loved reading as a child, I want to keep encouraging children to read an actual book in any way I can. I raised my children by reading to them daily and never tired of sitting and reading a pile of children’s book to them. Now, I do the same with my grandson.
My mother, Sharon always enjoyed art, but never started really pursuing painting until after she was married and began her family. After my brother and I entered school, she too went to school to become a teacher, so her painting was on the back burner. After retirement in 2003, she began taking art classes and delved into many styles. She found water color painting to be her favorite and excelled at that. When, I asked her to illustrate our first book, One Brick at a Time, she realized that her art could have real purpose. She loves to draw nature best and animals, but has endeavored people as well.
